The Cooper's Beach Bowling Club completed its domestic championships fours titles over the weekend of November 5 and 6.
Six teams entered the men's event and five teams in the women's and played a two-life system of four games per day of 15 ends or 1 hours with no timelimit for the final / possible final.
The men's title was taken out in a nail-biting style by Dennis Breckon, Bryon Corfield, Alan Larken and Murray Pope who eventually overwhelmed Ross Hulme, Dennis Lattimer, Ken Smith and Malcolm Maclean by a close fought scoreline of 14-13.
After eight ends Ross was up 12-4, but Dennis and his team slowly clawed their way back, with the score being 12-all after 13 ends. Dennis then scored a 2 on the 14th end and Ross a 1 on the last end.
Other teams were, Jack Hughes, Steve Barber, Logan Taylor and Trevor Wilcox; Nigel Leslie, Doug Robb, Denis Hailey and Neville Ansley; Jim Naylor, Tupu Campbell, Dave Roughton and Clive Holt; and, Trevor Smith, Peter Wilson, Clive Scahill and Stu Pedersen.
The women's section was won comfortably by Margaret Wildbore, Glenis Love, Gaye Parker and Mary Wright beating Pam Naylor, Pam Roughton, Shirley Marr and Barbara Scahill by 21-6 although organisers were at pains to note the scoreline did not reflect the contest.
Other teams were, Bev Shand, Ngaire Watts, Jean Piesse and Lorraine Walter; Janice Allan, Sue Smith, Jan Parker and Nancy Page; and, Patsy Thornton, Trish Breckon, Delphine Edwards and Carol Smith.
Thanks went to all who competed and especially those who invited newer bowlers to the club into their teams, which saw a great display of bowls by all over both days.
