The weather played ball when the Far North RSA Bowling Club hosted the Northland Age Open last Tuesday.

A report from organisers noted the annual battle for the mixed triples title eventually attracted 16 teams from Houhora, Cooper's Beach, Russell, Kaitaia Church Road and host clubs. The tournament was played on a lovely sunny day with little wind and holiday mode still very much in the air.

Following afternoon tea, FNRSABC president Ian MacNee acknowledged the catering team, match committee and others who had contributed to making this another successful and memorable day defined by a fine display of sportsmanship from all involved.

"Weather was really kind. I didn't hear any grumbles. Whoever we had [to play], they were really nice to play against," Mr MacNee said.

A tournament of this nature was only possible through a lot of hard work, he said.

Singled out for praise were Adele Gardner, for making sure there was a full field of 16 teams, and greenkeeper Moss Hotere, whose ongoing efforts ensured the RSA greens were "always a picture", Mr MacNee said.

Also thanked were the sponsors for their generosity before Age representative, Francis 'The Offsider' Malley, presented the prizes to the following top place-getters and lucky draw winners.

Results were, Jean Huxtable, Dennis Wishnowsky, Juliana Still 3 wins, 19 ends, 44 points, 1 (1st); Jill Phillips, Freda May, Colin May 3, 19, 44, 2; Selwyn Hargreaves, Val Jones, Rob Payne 3, 18, 41, 3.
