Arts Far North was delighted with the standing room only response to the Olive Copperbottom show at Taipa Reia Resort earlier this month, and has decided to invest some of the proceeds in a series of free dance workshops over Queen's Birthday weekend.
"There will be something for everyone —adults and children, male and female, and all levels of fitness," president Reg Payne said.
"And the range of dance styles covered will be very diverse, from ballet to burlesque via contemporary dance, choreography and body conditioning, so we hope to see a good turnout."
The workshops would be part of Arts Far North's recent emphasis on capacity building and inclusivity in the community.
"We are fortunate to have obtained the services of dance teacher and choreographer Leila Morad, who is coming up from Wellington," he said.
"She is about to disappear to Melbourne to further her career, so we must take advantage of her services while they are available.
"Arts Far North hopes that this will be the first of a series of fun events for everyone," Mr Payne added.
"It would be great to get more people in the Far North involved in all the arts in their many forms. We are particularly grateful to Kaitaia College for supporting us in this objective by offering use of their gymnasium."
