Cannabis crops will be growing well in this weather - and police want locals to be vigilant.

Cannabis crops will be growing well in this weather - and police want locals to be vigilant.

Any Far North cannabis plants that haven't been washed away should be flourishing, and the police are very keen to know where they are.

"This affects you and your neighbours, whether you are a rural land owner or an urban dweller. Growers will not hesitate to use you, your neighbours, or your property for their own means," this year's appeal for public support says.

"You may have seen or heard suspicious activity that could be connected to growing cannabis. If you have, we would like to know about it."

Police would be very interested in vehicle registration numbers, descriptions of vehicles and occupants, and the location. All calls would be treated in complete confidence.

The numbers to call are: Kaitaia — (09) 408-6500; Kaikohe — (09) 405-2960; Kawakawa — (09) 404-3150; Kerikeri — (09) 407-9211; Whangarei — (09) 430-4500. Information can also be given, anonymously, to Crimestoppers on 0800 555-111.
