Medadane Kipa's Mia was the Northland Age staff choice.

Medadane Kipa's Mia was the Northland Age staff choice.

Two-year-old Zariah Windleborn was in the spotlight this time last year with her American bulldog Thor, winner of the 2015 Northland Age Pet Idol title.

And last week she was there again, supporting her Poppa Steven Beckett, owner of this year's winner, almost-one-year-old Chihuahua/Maltese terrier cross Sheila.

Toki, owned by Mahue Tarawa, was voted cutest pooch.

Last year's prize was a $400 Nikon Coolpix digital camera, from Folders, and last week Steven collected another, worth $600, from the same Kaitaia firm.

Cutest pooch Toki won a grooming voucher from Pet Care Kaitaia, and Northland Age staff pick Mia will receive a free vaccination from Far North Vets and Pets.

Zariah, incidentally, is not unused to the winner's circle. She and her siblings have dominated Kaitaia's Daffodil Day baby photo competition over recent years, and she might now well be sowing the seed with Mum and Dad, Renee and Hazely, about adding another photogenic pet to the family before next year's Idol competition.
