The Kawakawa Team Roping Club successfully staged its annual family day event at the Kawakawa Domain on Saturday.
The event, referred to on the club programme as the Horse Sport Fun Day, attracted approximately 30 riders of all ages and abilities who competed in various equestrian/ rodeo-styled events including roping, poles, barrel races, team events etc in junior, intermediate and adult divisions.
There to cover proceedings, Bay/ mid north photojournalist Debbie Beadle said it was noticeable that the cattle - which were often accessorised with helmets/ fake horns etc - used in the event appeared very relaxed, and did not seem stressed in any way.
Organisers of the day also thanked the major sponsor for their support.
KTRC spokeswoman Wendy Scott noted the annual event was designed for families to come along and have some fun on their horses with all monies raised put towards local youth projects.
Scott described the Kawakawa Team Roping Club as a group of cowboys and cowgirls keen to promote and revitalise all aspects of the rodeo world within Kawakawa and surrounding communities.
"We will teach and show anyone who is willing, keen, excited and interested in learning many of the equestrian arts used within the rodeo arena," she said.
