Age was no barrier to victory in Friday night's Kerikeri Christmas parade, when Kerikeri Retirement Village captured the prize for best community float with a van, mobility scooters and wheelchairs decked out in summer theme.
Parade marshal Jim Phillips, of the Kerikeri Lions Club, said the tally of 35 floats was down on 2009, but that was more than made up for by the higher quality of entries this year.

About 75 crews took part in the BP Surf Rescue North Island IRB Championships at Waipu Cove on February 10 and 11, where sunshine and medium-sized waves made for a great event.
