SH12 fire in photos
Sunday's fire beside State Highway 12, between Kaikohe and Ngawha, was one of the biggest so far this summer. Several homes were threatened, at least a dozen were evacuated, and the highway was closed for much of the day. The photos show the fire, evacuated residents, firefighters, helicopters at work with monsoon buckets, and the smoke-shrouded highway. Photos by Peter de Graaf.
