They promised and they delivered.
Northland's $5 million cancer treatment unit, for which $3 million was raised by the community over three years in the Project Promise campaign, will be opened on Friday.
Northland District Health Board (NDHB) put in the other $2 million for the Jim Carney Cancer Treatment Centre, the purpose-built facility at Whangarei Hospital that will see more Northland people treated in their own district, rather than have to travel to Auckland and further afield.
The centre, the building of which began in February, will host an open day on Saturday. Patients will be treated at the centre from November 17.
