Opononi and Omapere residents are being urged to conserve water while contractors for the Far North District Council continue to look for and repair leaks in the pipeline between the Hokianga towns' dam and water treatment plant. A major leak was detected on April 5 and repaired the following day, but work to locate a number of other leaks is continuing. In the meantime the reservoir is being topped up with treated water trucked in from Kaikohe. The council is appealing to residents to limit water use to drinking and washing only.
