Water saving encouraged

Residents and businesses in Kerikeri and Kaitaia are being encouraged to save water as water treatment plants in both towns struggle to keep up with unusually high water use.
Daily water use in Kerikeri is a third higher than at the same time last year, and daily use in Kaitaia is 15 per cent higher than at the same time last year. Council water treatment plants in both towns are reaching capacity. Residents and businesses are being encouraged to conserve water now, before water restrictions need to be put into place. This is a precaution in anticipation of the summer dry, which often coincides with extra visitors to the district.
