A woman has spent the weekend in the cells after leading police on a chase where she allegedly reached speeds of 180kmh, evaded road spikes and rammed a police car.
The 33-year-old woman from Okaihau was stopped on State Highway 1 in Oakleigh at 9.30pm on Friday, Whangarei police acting sergeant Jeremy Weston said.
The woman, who had two outstanding warrants for her arrest, took off at high speed when police tried to question her, Mr Weston said.
Driving towards Whangarei, she reached 180km/h while overtaking other vehicles. Twice she attempted to ram pursuing police cars, once successfully, Mr Weston said.
"[She's] slammed on the brakes and reversed, ramming into a police vehicle."
