Statistics released by Trade Me showed a 9.1 per cent increase in median rental prices across Northland from November 2013 to November last year.
By region, the median rent price for a medium size (3-4 bedroom) house was $300 in the Far North, $250 in Kaipara and $340 in Whangarei.
The data showed in November the median rental price for a small house (1-2 bedrooms) was $240 while the rent price for a medium house (3-4 bedrooms) was $330.
The median rent price for a large house (5 plus bedrooms) was $473 - a 13 per cent increase.
Nationally, rental prices increased by 5.3 per cent last month, compared with November 2013. The median rent price was $400 per week in November.
The average rental price for a small house (1-2 bedrooms) was $320, up 8.5 per cent, while it was $450 for a medium sized home (3-4 bedrooms), also up 9.8 per cent. Large houses (5+ bedrooms) increased by 8.3 per cent to $650.
In the past five years, rent prices countrywide have increased by 21.2 per cent.
Auckland's average asking price was $460 followed by Christchurch at $450 per week.
