A Kawakawa man has appeared in court charged with a knifepoint robbery in the town this week.
Julian Wiki, 21, was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Kaikohe District Court on Tuesday on a charge of aggravated robbery. He is due back in court on August 14.
It is alleged Wiki assaulted a shopkeeper and threatened him with two knives about 11am on Monday. The shopkeeper is not thought to have been seriously injured.
The robbery sparked a major police operation involving staff from Kawakawa, Kerikeri and Whangarei, with roads cordoned off, a police dog brought in, and officers scouring streets and swamps around the town.
Wiki was apprehended about 2.30pm.
