Going to pick up his girlfriend from town at night has landed a Whangarei man with his third drink-driving conviction.
Joseph Herbert JOHNSON, 46, appeared in Whangarei District Court for sentence on a charge of driving with excess blood alcohol for a third or subsequent time after being stopped by police on Great North Rd, Whangarei, at 10.52pm on December 22.
After a breath test Johnson elected to undergo a blood test, which showed he had a level of 123mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 80mg.
Johnson told police his girlfriend had phoned him asking him to pick her up from town.
He was fined $1500 and disqualified from driving for 12 months for his third drink-driving conviction.
