Do you want to own a piece of New Zealand nautical history that could double as a children's playhouse or a marine-themed sleepout?
You may be interested in a curiosity for sale on Trade Me. The Kerikeri Steam Trust, which is restoring the century-old steam ferry Minerva, is selling the boat's cabin top. The cabin was not part of the original 20-metre kauri ferry, built in 1910 to shuttle passengers between Auckland's Queen St wharf and Howick, so it had to be removed. The ferry was gifted to the trust on the condition it be restored to its original state, a massive task under way in Kerikeri's Cobham Rd. The cabin top is 3m wide and 4.2m long, and high enough to stand inside. The auction blurb suggests adding a floor and foundations would make a unique playhouse or garden shelter. The cabin is being stored at Blacksmith Bay near Kerikeri.
