Old-fashioned glamour is making a comeback this season - with the shapes and textures of the 1950s reworked for the 21st century. Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn are the fashion icons for winter 2011, whether you are looking for something to wear to work or the perfect ball dress. Even Pippa Middleton got in on the action with the stunning sheath dress she wore as sister Kate's bridesmaid.
One of the best things about a lot of these styles is that they are very flattering for almost all figures. Nipped-in waists give great definition and full skirts always make legs look slimmer. For less curvy shapes, sheath dresses that just skim the body are effortlessly sexy.
This look is all about playing up what you've got - and brushing over the bits you are not so fond of.
Look for classic tailoring and clean lines but add a modern touch with strong colours - and don't be afraid to mix different bold shades within one outfit.
A lot of this look is dresses: Shirt dresses with tie waists and full skirts; evening dresses that just skim the calf. But if you want to dress it down a bit for work, look for pencil skirts to match with cute blouses - especially some of the styles in shops at the moment with bows at the neck or shoulder.
Otherwise, look for a tailored jacket to wear with cigarette pants. Keep the top and bottom different colours so you don't look like you are wearing a suit.
This is the season for playing dress-up. Accentuate your favourite features, flounce about in pretty skirts, and finish the look off with a silk scarf and fitted cardigan on cooler days.
