Before you leave the house, cover up with an SPF 30 sunscreen. Go for waterproof varieties but still reapply sunscreen after you swim, as well as every two hours or so.
Comb conditioner through your hair and wrap it in a bandanna or pop a hat on top. When you expose your hair to the sun, the warmth will turn the conditioner into an intensive treatment.
Switch your lipgloss for a balm that contains a sunscreen.
For blonde hair affected by chlorine: Mix baby shampoo with baking soda. Cover your hair with it while it's dry, then leave it for 10 minutes before rinsing it out.
This will clarify the hair and reduce the fading effect the sun can have.
Eggs and beer are also easy ways to restore the shine to hair, if you can get over the smell.
Make a spray to take to the beach: Mix sunscreen, conditioner and water, and spritz your hair regularly.
When you get home, moisturise thoroughly, and wash and condition your hair - products that are especially designed to combat sun damage are good.
