A Hamilton family has used the Governments four week Covid-19 lockdown to put a isolation spin on the hit Pokémon theme song.
New Zealand is near the end of week one of the four week lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19, with 552 confirmed cases in the country.
Well known Hamilton composer and Creative Waikato CEO Jeremy Mayall, and his wife and son Courteney and Wolfgang Mayall used their first few days in isolation to rewrite the lyrics to the Pokémon theme song to encourage people to stay in their social bubbles and help break the chain.
There have been over 4200 reports made in the first 24 hours of the new isolation breach website, people can dob in those not following the rules.
"The idea for song was to have some fun as a family whilst spreading a fun message to remind everyone about how important it is to do this isolation thing right," Mr Mayall said.
"It is good for the whole family to stay safe, and as the song says: "you protect me, and I'll protect you".
The rewritten lyrics focus around the message of staying home and saving lives with lines such as:
"I've got to stay inside my house, For the quarantine.
Gotta keep my family safe,
You know what I mean.
I won't travel across the land,
I will stay inside.
Each of us has to understand,
The danger that's outside."
The rewritten lyrics was a collaboration job for the family, spearheaded by their eight year old son Wolf, who has his own YouTube channel called Wolfgang's world and is currently producing further songs.
"It was a fun weekend project for us all."
Lyrics:
"I've got to stay inside my house,
For the quarantine.
Gotta keep my family safe,
You know what I mean.
I won't travel across the land,
I will stay inside.
Each of us has to understand,
The danger that's outside.
ISOLATE!
In our bubble team
We know it's our destiny
ISOLATE!
Oh, with my best friends
It's a world we must defend.
ISOLATE!
Our hearts are true
Our courage will pull us through.
You protect me and I'll protect you.
Isolate.
Gotta stay inside, gotta stay inside.
ISOLATE!!"
