The Gisborne/Tairawhiti Junior Surf Lifesaving Championships caught the tail end of the hot spell with an early evening start on Friday and an early-afternoon finish on Saturday before the cooler southerly front came in.
Midway won the competition, Wainui came second and Waikanae were third.
