“They had the bulk of the attacking possession, but LOB had glimpses of counter-attack and stayed in the game,” Scragg said.
“James (Torrie) paid tribute afterwards to LOB goalkeeper Cole Manson, who made some brilliant saves,” Scragg said.
The standout game in the women's matches — in terms of the scoreline — was the 10-0 win YMP A had against a handy Ngatapa side.
Lucy McHugh was the chief destroyer, scoring five goals, and Toni Halley chimed in with a brace.
“That result certainly made a statement to the women's top four,” Scragg said.
“Everyone I spoke to was surprised at the margin.”
INA Contracting GMC Green continued on their unbeaten way with a 6-1 victory over Paikea. Six of the Green Machine players were on the scoresheet.
“It was certainly a full squad effort by GMC,” Scragg said.
“They had the match under control from the outset.
“Credit to Paikea though. They didn't give up and they scored their goal in the dying minutes of the game.”
GMC Kowhai had a good 4-0 win against Waituhi, with the goals shared around.
“That was a real confidence boost for Kowhai to start their bottom-five campaign,” Scragg said.
“They will be a team to watch at that end of the women's competition.”
In men's games, Waituhi overpowered LOB Masters 10-2.
Hylam Tukariri scored a hat-trick for Waituhi, and Chris Heemi and Matty Waikara scored two goals each.
“It was a slow start for Waituhi, but their third quarter was outstanding,” Scragg said.
“They really put the goals away.
“But credit to the Masters. We hung in there despite the scoreline and scored two goals of our own in the final quarter.”
Gisborne Boys' High School beat YMP B 6-0, with Lachie Falloon scoring two of the goals.
“Boys' High looked the goods ahead of their two upcoming tournaments,” Scragg said.
“They have come on well as the season has progressed. They dealt with anything that YMP B threw at them.”
In the match between Amber Dental Gisborne Girls' High School and Te Aowera, the students had played well to have five goals on the board, but the points were shared because both sides had made technical errors.
