YMP reasserted their dominance of the netball premiership so far this season when they posted a 21-point victory over traditional rivals Whangara Old Girls on Saturday.

The undefeated YMP side beat Whangara 59-38.

They jumped out to a 17-8 lead in the Pak’nSave premier grade match after 15 minutes, then led 28-19 at halftime and 44-29 at three-quartertime.

YMP started strongly, with goal keep Keasi Fonohema outstanding. She was out hunting the ball and making it difficult for the Whangara feeders to get the ball in to their shooters.

It took Whangara three minutes to score their first goal and by the end of the quarter YMP were leading by nine.

Whangara made changes and the scoring was even in the second quarter, which meant YMP were still out in front by nine.

However, YMP picked up the pressure in the third quarter. The whole team worked together, capitalising on Whangara errors and extending their lead.

YMP attackers Anatea Taituha at centre, Maia Rickard at wing attack, Jayda Banks at goal attack and Paku-Jane Skudder at goal shoot have a good understanding of each other’s play and the ball was effortlessly delivered into the shooters.

Whangara defenders Kelsi Hohipa, Ash Osbourne and Torepe Taumaunu worked hard to stop the flow of ball into the YMP shooters and there were some tips, intercepts and rebounds, but they were not always turned into goals at the other end of the court.

This was another strong performance from YMP.
