GISBORNE paddlers are eyeing a golden double at the IVF Va’a World Sprint Championships on Australia’s Sunshine Coast.
Representing Aotearoa in the elite races on Lake Kawana, the V6 women’s crew — predominantly made up of Gisborne athletes — yesterday won through to two finals.
Cory Campbell, Kiwi Campbell, RoseKing, Sieda Tureia, Te Whaeoranga Smallman and Vesna Radonich won their heat of the V6 500 metres. They were 13 seconds clear of Australia.
Marianna Hodges replaced Cory in the crew who comfortably won their heat to make the final of the V6 1500.
The elite finals are being held today. The champs continue with the club worlds for the rest of the week and a large contingent of Gisborne paddlers is involved.
