COSSIE Snooker Club president Steve Wood won the Burnie Hart Memorial Handicap Snooker Tournament when he beat Hawke’s Bay teenager Marcus Moat two frames to nil in the final. In last year’s final, Moat beat Wood by the same score.
The Coates Associates-sponsored event attracted a full field of
32 players drawn from the Gisborne Cosmopolitan and RSA clubs, and from Hawke’s Bay, Whakatane, Mt Maunganui and Hamilton, and included local women Te Rina Hawkins, Connie Pari, Mary Kerekere and Tracy Pearce.
Moat, 16, and Wood both played off a handicap of 7. Last year Moat was on a 35 handicap.
Wood reached the final by defeating Gisborne player Gary Raggett (35hcp) 2-1, while Moat defeated Hamilton’s Paul Phillips (14hcp) 2-0.
