Organised team sporting contests are thin on the ground in Gisborne this weekend.

The likelihood of significant numbers of players being away for Queen’s Birthday Weekend has been cited as the reason for the sporting inactivity. No organised netball is being played in Gisborne on Saturday, although the netball centre’s Facebook page says Thursday and Friday netball is still on. No Eastern League men’s or women’s football will be played this week, and neither will junior football. However, on Saturday ALH Gisborne Thistle will play Massey University in a Central Federation League game in Palmerson North at 2.45pm, and ALH Thistle Reserves will play Port Hill United in a Pacific Premiership game at Childers Road Reserve at 2.30pm. On Monday, Thistle and Heavy Equipment Services Gisborne United will clash at Childers Road Reserve in a Central Federation Cup quarterfinal at 2pm. No senior club or Junior Advisory Board rugby is scheduled for this weekend. Attention will be focused on Enterprise Cars Whakarua Park, Ruatoria, for the game between Ngati Porou East Coast and Civil Project Solutions Poverty Bay at 2.30pm on Saturday.

The curtain-raiser will be a game between Ngati Porou East Coast Wahine and Turanga Mana Wahine. Kick-off will be at 12 midday.

No club hockey is scheduled for this weekend.
