It’s take two for the Larsen’s Sawmilling Jumping Championships in Gisborne, starting on Thursday,
Some of New Zealand’s top horses and riders are Gisborne-bound for the event that is usually held in January but was postponed this year because of a weather event.
Ground jury president Kaye Williams said theShowgrounds Park venue was looking a picture and ready for three competitive days of jumping.
“We may not have huge entries but the quality is certainly there ... we have riders coming from Auckland, Waikato, Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay, Wellington and even Christchurch,” Williams said.
Many are chasing points in national series classes, which include the horse and pony grand prix, young rider and age group classes.
The show will also feature grassroots-level competitions in the indoor arena to give those beginning their equestrian journeys the chance to win a ribbon.
Many of those taking part are regulars who have competed at the show for years, thanks to the event’s reputation, and plenty of local combinations have also entered.
Donella Still and Edward Bullock will be designing the courses in rings one and two.
