Encouraging swims at a club night brought satisfied grins to the faces of coaches Matt Martin and Jonette Maynard last week.

Wet weather has not deterred Enterprise Cars Swim Team members in their preparation for the main competitions of the summer season, set for the first quarter of 2024.

Last week’s second club night of the preparation phase of their training was testament to that. Many of the 57 swimmers who faced the starter swam personal-best times.

Those who recorded personal-best times in all of their swims were: Bride Alexander, Harry Briant, Thomas Coleman, Harper Connon, Faith Evans, Emmie Fitzharris-Stevens, Dillon Gultig, Bhodi King, Joshua Matthews-Atkins, Zyanja Rudge, Flynn Teutenberg, Mason Wallace, Korbin Wigglesworth, Indy Williams and Indy Martin.

Other meritorious efforts were Charlotte Alexander’s five-second PB in the 100-metre breaststroke and freestyle, Cole Alexander’s three-second improvement in the 100m backstroke, Brianna Barclay’s 18-second reduction from her old time for the 50m butterfly, Charlotte Gray’s three-second reduction from her 100m backstroke mark, and the Hudson sisters’ efforts — a 13-second improvement by Hannah in her 50m breaststroke and a five-second improvement by Natalie in her 100m individual medley.

Emily Latu swam new personal-best times in the 25m freestyle and breaststroke, Sanya Lawler swam an 11-second PB in the 50m breaststroke, Ruby Martin obliterated her previous best in the 200m IM with a 16-second improvement, and Couper Reid and Harrison Sheldrake took three seconds off their 50m back and 100m IM respectively.

With the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay Summer Champs only three weeks away, anticipation is growing within this tight-knit, highly motivated team.
