GISBORNE Netball Centre is calling for representative coaches and managers for the 2016 season. Coaches and managers are required for Year 7, Y8, u15 and u17 teams.

Applications for these positions close on Sunday. Application forms are available from GNC (gisbornenetball@ihugh.co.nz) or can be downloaded from the centre’s website

The Y7 and Y8 rep teams have tournaments in Gisborne, Whakatane and Rotorua.

The U15s compete at tournaments in Whakatane, Rotorua, Hamilton and the regionals in Taranaki.

Zone-wide tournaments are to be introduced at u17 level, with the top qualifiers earning a place at the Netball New Zealand U17 champs in Rangiora.

GNC is also reminding club and school teams that its AGM is on Wednesday, December 9 from 5.30pm at the centre pavilion.

The meeting cannot start unelss there is a quorum of one-third of member clubs but GNC would like to see all teams represented. All attendees go into the draw for a $100 voucher at Lone Star.

Netballers are also encouraged to read up on the international rule changes to be adopted by Netball New Zealand next year. These are available on the NNZ website.

A rules change session is to be held in Gisborne by Netball Waikato Bay of Plenty’s Jan Teesdale on Saturday, February 27. There will be more details on the session closer to the time.

Key rule changes to be adoptedUmpires will no longer have to blow their whistle to indicate a goal has been scored or when the ball has clearly gone out of court.If a player calls injury time, they must leave the court within 30 seconds and be substituted by another player unless the team’s primary carer indicates more time is needed.Players can receive cautions and warnings before being suspended from the game, or ordered off, depending on the severity of the offence.Teams will no longer have to wait for the infringing player to stand down before they take a penalty pass.When taking a centre pass, the centre is required to only have one foot wholly within the centre circle.Goal-tending will no longer be allowed. Players will not be able to deflect a shot once the ball is on a downward flight towards the ring, including touching the ball up through the net.
