THRILL-seekers are in for a high-speed, action-packed weekend when top New Zealand water-skiers descend on the Wairoa River at the end of January. It’s the Write Price Food Barn Wairoa Bridge 2 Bridge water skiing event.

Wairoa Bridge 2 Bridge event co-ordinator Roger Forrester says the event will feature some of the best water-skiers and fastest boats around, some of which can reach speeds of up to 200 kilometres an hour.

“This is the fourth year we have run the Bridge 2 Bridge and it’s now becoming an acknowledged premier event on the national calendar.

“The Wairoa Bridge 2 Bridge has now been included in the NZ Waterski Association race calendar. This is great news, as the Wairoa event will now feature in the national event calendar, with water-skiers from throughout the country competing at the Wairoa tournament to accumulate points to qualify for the worlds.

“Our event will then move to a biennial event as competitors will then be away competing at the worlds. But to be included in the national race calendar just means more exposure for our sport and our community at the highest levels of water-skiing.

“It’s great that our event is now sanctioned by the national association and will be included in the national race calendar,” says Mr Forrester.

The Wairoa Bridge 2 Bridge will be at the Wairoa Water Ski Club, Lockwood Point, Wairoa on January 30-31.
