WAIROA Athletic clinched the Eastern League Division 3 football title with a 3-0 victory over Gisborne Boys’ High School (3) at the Rectory field on Saturday.
Meanwhile, runners-up Smash Palace Shockers had another setback, this time a 5-3 loss to Lytton (2) at Lytton High School. Last week Shockers drew4-4 with Boys’ High (3) at the Rectory.
Three Rivers Bohemians and Eastland Group United fought out a 2-2 draw in the other Divison 3 match. These two sides have first-round byes in the Poverty Bay Cup this Saturday, while Lytton and Shockers meet again in one cup tie and Wairoa visit the Rectory to play Boys’ High (3) in the other.
In the Chris Moore Cup knockout competition for Division 2 teams, league champions Riverina eased past Sunshine Brewery Wainui Sharks 1-0 at Wainui on Saturday.
Farmlands United beat Campion Thistle 4-0 at Campion, and will take on Riverina in one semifinal at Childers Road Reserve this weekend.
In the other semifinal, also at the reserve, Gisborne Vehicle Testing Bohemians will play Thistle 26ers.
The Bohs beat Division 2 runners-up Wainui Demons 3-1 at Wainui last weekend, while the 26ers had too much experience for Boys’ High (2) and beat them 5-2 at Childers Road Reserve.
