NETBALL

WAIKOHU should feature in the games of the day in Round 2 of grading in Gisborne premier-grade netball at Victoria Domain tomorrow.

Play continues for all senior, secondary and intermediate teams in Pak’nSave netball competitions.

“The top four seeded teams all had wins last weekend and I expect similar results tomorrow,” netball commentator Sherrill Beale said.

At 10.10am, Whangara Old Girls take on Gillies Electrical Gisborne Girls’ High School Senior A.

“The students started well last week, but let Claydens Waikohu pull ahead in the second half,” Beale said.

“They will have worked on their links over the week, but will need the whole team working together for the full hour.

“They will need to have done that because Whangara are looking fit and speedy. Last week they showed good understanding on attack and defence.”

Also at 10.10, YMP Sunshine Brewery play Ritana Senior A from Lytton High School.

“Ritana are in a rebuilding phase and last week they had passages of play where they worked together well,” Beale said.

“However, they will need a full game of working together, as YMP have started the season well. They moved the ball speedily through the court last Saturday and pressured every pass when on defence.”

At 11.20am, F45 HSOG take the court against Waikohu.

“This will be a close contest,” Beale said.

“You’ve got the third and fourth seeds playing each other and both had wins last week.

“Both teams will want to continue that run and they have had close games against each other last year, so expect the same tomorrow.”

At 12.20pm YMP will be in action again, this time against Girls’ High Senior A.

“The students will need to bring their top game if they want to stop defending champions YMP from taking this win.”

The final premier match-up starts at 1.20pm and Waikohu get their second match of the day, against Horouta Gold.

“It’s Waikohu’s second match but they are looking fit, and moved the ball confidently through the court last week, so they will be up for the challenge,” Beale said.

“Horouta had two tough games last week and will be determined to have a closer contest tomorrow.

“This should be a good game.”

Netball takes a break on Saturday, April 24, for all grades. On the following Saturday, May 1, only the senior grades will play.
