YMP go into this Pak’nSave competition match on the back of a powerhouse 72-33 win against Gisborne Girls’ High School in which they showed commanding form.
Waikohu, on the other hand, were well beaten by Ritana Senior A last Wednesday.
“We have that many injuries at the moment, and we are really missing Missy Ruru at centre; she has a knee injury,” Waikohu coach Cheryl Te Rito said.
“It’s going to be really tough for us playing YMP.
“We are working on getting our midcourt right again, but we are not there yet.
“We have had to call on a few of the old girls to fill in.
“We’re hoping we’ll get it together again . . . we will see.”
YMP have a considerable injury worry of their own, with influential midcourter Renee Wikaire out for the season with an Achilles tendon injury.
The match starts at 6pm.
At 7.30pm, Taste One High School Old Girls take on Champers Horouta Gold.
“HSOG are another team who have been playing well and they deserve to be sitting in second spot on the premier points table,” Beale said.
Horouta Gold pushed third-placed Whangara Old Girls last Wednesday and even led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Whangara got home 42-39.
The defence of both teams was a feature.
“Horouta were pressured into errors and lost their lead,” Beale said.
“So they will need a consistent team effort if they want this win.”
HSOG coach Tanya Owen said her girls would not take Horouta for granted.
“They have played well lately and are on the rise,” she said.
“We are working hard on eliminating our errors, and that will be a focus for us again tomorrow night.”
Heading into tomorrow night’s games, YMP lead the premier table on 32 points, followed by High School Old Girls on 25, Whangara 24, and Waikohu 21.
Ritana Senior A have 13, and Champers Horouta Gold and GGHS Snr A both have seven.
