Gisborne Boys’ High student Anaru Paenga-Morgan reaffirmed his status as the top junior 16 W1 paddler in the country at the National Secondary School Waka Ama Championships yesterday.

Reigning J16 New Zealand champion Paenga-Morgan won the under16 boys’ W1 250 metres championship final on Rotorua’s Lake Tikitapu, with fellow GBHS student Kitini Taihuka third.

Gisborne Girls’ High student Rangi-Riana Williams was second in the u19 W1 250m while Lytton High’s Kelsey Teneti won the u16 girls’ W1 250 plate final.

GBHS/GGHS crews, under the name Turanga Wahine Turanga Tane, were second in the u16 mixed WT12 250 championship final and fourth in the u19 mixed WT12 250 championship final.

The champs continued today.
