“I'm here almost every day; this is my only sport,” Arnold said.
“My favourite thing to do is one-and-a-half front flips. Once you start getting good at front flips, it doesn't even really feel like you're doing anything, so adding the spins makes it fun.”
Arnold also won awards for the top sub-junior female trampolinist and female double mini tramp sub-junior.
Van Aswegen wanted to thank his coach Doug Callahan, who he said was key to the success he'd found in the sport.
Callahan said it had been hard to pick winners this year, with so many great athletes in the club, but the two chosen were deserving winners.
“They're both incredibly hard workers,” he said.
“They're here on time every day and they're always ready to get to work.”
Former Gisborne Trampoline Club member and current national women's surfing champion Saffi Vette presented the awards at the prize-giving.
She said the club held a special place in her heart. Her late father, Andy, had served as president of the club.
“Dad never did anything halfway,” Vette said.
“If he was committed to something he was always into it to make it bigger and better.”
Vette said the sport of trampolining had been a great fundamental base for her surfing.
She said trampolining had helped her develop a keen awareness of her body and how it moved.
