Rep Cricket returns to Harry Barker Reserve this week with the Northern Districts emerging rangātahi/under 19 tournament.
The seven Northern Districts' minor associations, Poverty Bay, Counties Manukau, Lakelands, Northland, Waikato Valley, Bay of Plenty and Northland plus a Northern Districts Invitation side, play two T20 matches a day on Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday, and a one-day 50-over match on both Thursday and Friday.
Poverty Bay cricket identity Rose Doleman says many future New Zealand players have appeared in Gisborne in such age group tournaments.
The two she remembers most vividly are current New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and, in a national under 14 tournament, the late great Martin Crowe.
She said Crowe arrived in Gisborne with a reputation as a cricket prodigy.
