SIXTEEN teams competed in an interschool netball tournament that ended in a final between Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Nga Uri a Maui and Manutuke School.
Both of these teams went through their pool round-robin games unbeaten, and the final was played at Manutuke School on Wednesday.
TKKM oNga Uri a Maui won the final, 25-21, to win the School Supplies Ltd Interschool Netball Champion Trophy.
The other schools taking part were Waikirikiri, Kaiti, Central, Mangapapa, Wainui Beach, Te Hapara, Awapuni, St Mary’s, Riverdale, Ormond, Makauri, Te Wharau, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Horouta Wananga and Makaraka.
Teams were split into two divisions, with pool-crossover games to finish the eight-week competition.
Home and away games were played during Friday lunchtimes in Term 3, the idea being that teams would have turns playing in front of their schoolmates, with all the school spirit and cheering that went with that.
In the past few years, the trophy has been held by Te Hapara, Mangapapa, Te Wharau, Manutuke and Kaiti.
