HSOB Squash Club co-ordinator Audine Grace-Kutia said Quade had shown focus and determination to improve his squash this year. The title had taken him close to his goal of achieving C Grade status.
Quade was recognised as HSOB Squash Club’s most improved player for 2015. Ariata Kutia has learned of her selection in the New Zealand junior squash team to compete in an annual transtasman clash in Labrador on Australia’s Gold Coast in January.
Her mother, Audine Grace-Kutia, will accompany the team as part of a three-member management team who will support coaches Robbie Wyatt and Shelley Kitchen.
Ariata’s selection follows a successful season in which she won the Oceania, North Island and national junior age-group championship titles for under-13 girls, as well as a bronze medal at the 2015 AIMS Games.
Ariata was a member of the successful New Zealand junior squash team who played in the transtasman fixture in April this year. She has also been invited to be a member of the 2016 junior development squad.
Parearau Kutia has been invited to be in the elite junior girls’ squad.
These squads are part of a Squash New Zealand programme focusing on high-performance areas including world junior and senior teams, and professional players capable of succeeding on international tours or being contenders for Commonwealth Games medals.
The girls follow in the footsteps of elder brother Chapman, who is 19 years old and studying at Victoria University of Wellington.
Chapman was a member of the 2014 New Zealand junior boys’ squash team who travelled to Namibia for the world championships.
