“Our own Brenden Gooch (2NZ) would certainly be a contender for the title, along with the likes of Shaun Kingi (75G), Dave Hampton (88G) and Cody Gooch (6G).”
The drivers will know who they have been paired with in the best pairs.
Gooch said the three memorial trophies would have a lot of emotion attached.
“The Law-Cartmell Memorial Trophy races for the sidecars will be an interesting battle again,” he said.
The expected eight combinations taking part should include bikes from Auckland and Hawke’s Bay.
The Ashley Scott Memorial Trophy for stockcars was expected to draw 12 to 14 cars, including a few from out of town, Gooch said.
As part of the stockcar programme, about a dozen cars would race in the Golden Oldies competition.
“They are coming from the Waikato and Rotorua to compete for the first time for the Terry Hunt Memorial Trophy,” Gooch said.
“The late Terry Hunt was extremely popular in the club.
“So that’s three trophies that the drivers really want to win because of the history attached.”
The support programme will be made up of production saloons.
“The usual suspects will be there — about 10 cars in all. It’s been an entertaining class all season.”
The supports also include TQs, with seven or eight cars expected.
“Seven or eight saloon cars will be there, but we will be without the Cook brothers this weekend,” Gooch said.
“Ethan (1NZG) and Daniel (77G) are away representing the North Island in the inter-island, North versus South challenge in Huntly.”
The youth ministock component of the programme is expected to feature 22 cars.
A parade of the stockcars and streetstocks will be held at 5.45pm tomorrow, with the gates open from 5pm. The first race will start at 6pm.
The club’s final meeting will be on Saturday, April 27.
