Netball

WELCOME to Premier Grade netball . . . Waikohu (3) earned promotion from Premier Reserve with strong performances in the challenge games last week. Now they can test themselves against the reigning champions.

YMP Sunshine Brewery are the first opponents for Claydens Waikohu in this season’s top-tier competition. Their game is the 6pm fixture when Round 2 of the Pak’nSave competition starts in the YMCA tomorrow night.

YMP bounced back to their winning ways 10 days ago and put an end to Whangara Old Girls’ unbeaten run.

Netball commentator Sherrill Beale said a feature of YMP’s play was their work together on attack and defence. They moved the ball speedily through the court, so Claydens Waikohu (3) would need their players working together for the full hour if they wanted to win.

At 7.30pm, F45 High School Old Girls would play Gillies Electrical Gisborne Girls’ High School Senior A

Beale said the experience of F45 HSOG in working together through the whole court was too much for the students when they met 10 days ago, when the score margin was 16 goals.

However, Girls’ High had some passages where they showed good understanding of their links and moved the ball well, so she expected them to be more competitive and ready for the pressure.
