Gisborne was well represented at a national beach sprint camp held by Surf Life Saving NZ in Napier at the weekend.

Forty-two of New Zealand’s top age-group beach sprint and beach flag athletes were selected after their results at the AON New Zealand Surf Lifesaving Championships in March.

They included: from Riversun Wainui, Rori Fukushima Hall and Klara Pauwels; from Kaiaponi Farms Waikanae, Georgie Beaufoy, and from Dawson Building Midway, James Hamblyn, Lilla Hain and Sophie Warren.

It was an intensive programme of beach and track sessions, strength and conditioning blocks, workshops on nutrition, mental skills, and goal setting.

“All focused on one goal — developing New Zealand’s next generation of world-class beachies,” SLSNZ said.
