The top teams in the netball premiership should have little trouble tonight from their opposition in the mid-week games in the Gisborne YMCA.

At 6pm Whangara Old Girls will be in action against premier newcomers Claydens Waikohu 3 in the Pakn'Save competition.

“Whangara gave a slick display of netball skills on Saturday and showed why they are sitting at the top of the grade,” said netball commentator Sherrill Beale.

They put on 70 points against the other new team in premiers Tapuae from Wairoa.

“Waikohu 3 had a tough introduction to the premier grade last Wednesday when they met YMP Sunshine Brewery, and this game will be a similar encounter,” Beale said.

“They will need all players working together for the full hour as Whangara like to move at speed through the court.”

YMP outscored them by a solid margin last week too.

In the 7.30pm clash YMP take on Gillies Electrical Gisborne Girls High School Senior A.

“YMP like to move the ball at speed through the court, and like Whangara they gave a good display of their skills last Wednesday against Waikohu 3.

“So the students will need to bring their top game to compete against them.”

“Girls High struggled with the defensive pressure from F45 HSOG last week and made some basic errors,” Beale said.

“They will have worked on these over the week and I expect them to be more competitive than the 20-goal deficit that they suffered last time they met YMP.”
