“It should be a close one.”
The women get first use of the turf this weekend.
YMP A and Ben Holden Fencing Ngatapa are favourites ahead of tomorrow night’s opening games of the round.
The 6pm encounter between YMP A and JNL Paikea would heavily favour the defending champs. Paikea will have their work cut out on defence.
“Paikea will have to be at their best on defence to contain a YMP women’s side who have attacking flair again this season,” Scragg said.
“There is nothing to lose for Paikea. They should just go out there and give it their best shot.”
Ngatapa would be due a victory and they should achieve that in their 7.30pm clash with YMP B.
“Ngatapa played quite well in the 4-2 loss to the Green Machine — so they’ve played the best, it’s now a matter of how well they can attack against the rest.”
On Saturday Gisborne Boys’ High School and YMP B start the afternoon programme, and a win to Boys’ High looks likely.
“Boys’ High have had a tough two weeks and they are due a win.
“I think they will do that on Saturday,” Scragg said.
“But they will be up against a very unpredictable YMP B side.”
The 1.45pm encounter has LOB NZ Fruits up against the LOB Masters, and the Masters would have the nod there.
“The Masters have shown some good form against the likes of Boys’ High and YMP B.
“The Fruits have everything to prove.”
At 5.15pm GMC Green play GMC Gold and the Green Machine look certain to continue on their unbeaten way.
“It will most likely be all one-way traffic in Green’s favour.
“They were not happy after last week’s close match and will want to make a statement. Watch out GMC Gold!”
Roseland Tavern Te Aowera and Amber Dental Gisborne Girls’ High School take the turf at 7pm to complete the week’s round of games.
“Girls’ High would be favoured and they should win well,” Scragg said.
“TA have shown they give it right to the end, and the students will need to be aware of that never-say-die attitude.”
