STEFAN Destounis has been named Poverty Bay Rugby Football Union’s Paul Sceats Player of the Year at the union’s end-of-year prize-giving.
The High School Old Boys loose forward’s selection for the Heartland 15 was the icing on the cake after a stellar club and representative season.
Waikohu halfback Mario Counsell
was named Poverty Bay’s Heartland best back of the year, while Ngatapa prop James Higgins was named best forward.
Ngatapa lock Dan Law won the Heartland “best and fairest” award and with it was awarded the Erle Tucker portable speaker, while Tulsa Kaui won the Peter Brown Mana Tangata award for inspirational team spirit.
Gisborne Boys’ High School first 15 players Max Briant and Nik Patumaka were jointly awarded the Benchmark Award, for players from the age-grade representative teams who consistently set the bar high for others to follow.
