Get close . . . that was the intention of all who stood on the par-3 sixth tee during the Emerre and Hathaway Poverty Bay Women’s Open held on the Awapuni Links course this week.

Anne Witters  and Poverty Bay clubmate Lynne Holmberg  watch the progress of their tee shots during the Championship 8 matchplay final. Witters came through to beat recently crowned senior women’s club champion Holmberg on the 18th.

The other two matchplay groups were won by visitors. Robyn Orton (Hastings)  won Group 2 and  Rachel Young (Putaruru) Group 3.

The 36-hole stableford champions were Jacqui Rogers (Opotiki), who won Division 1 with 83 points (41, 42); Helen Cox (Hastings), who won Division 2 with 78 (40, 38) and Colleen Skuse (PB), who won Division 3 with 79 (37, 42).

Noreen Johnson (PB) won the 18-hole section with an impressive tally of 50 points (26, 24) for the two lots of nine holes.
