Thompson Sr pockets 8-ball title

He fell just short in the Gisborne Cossie 8-ball Pool Open Singles tournament played under chartered rules in August.

But Phil Thompson Senior went one better than that runner-up finish to claim the 8-ball open singles tournament played under friendship rules at the Cossie last weekend.

Thompson Sr and Rip Morgan fought it out in a final that required all five frames.

Thompson Sr got home 3-2 to make it a 1-2 finish for the two open tournaments.

Neil Robinson beat Thompson Sr in the chartered rules final.

The semifinals of last weekend’s competition were also the best of five frames.

Thompson Sr proved too good for Tony Murphy, easing to a 3-0 victory.

In a much closer tussle, Morgan beat Bill Raggett 3-2.

John Berry defeated Scott Mercer 3-0 in the plate final.
