Phil Thompson  emerged the champion from Gisborne Cosmopolitan Snooker Club’s President’s Trophy held last weekend.

The trophy brings together winners and runners-up from all club competitions over the year and is played off handicap.

A full field of 16 took part — eight qualifying for the main event, eight for the plate.

Wayne Tautau, Thompson, John Berry and Bill Raggett made the semifinals of the main event.

Thompson beat Tautau 2-0 in the best-of-three-frames format while Berry eliminated Raggett 2-1.

Thompson went on to defeat Berry 2-1 in the final.

In the plate semifinals, Charlie Atkins defeated Larry Robinson 2-1 and Mickey Cleaver knocked out John Warren 2-0.

Cleaver beat Atkins 2-1 in the final.

The snooker club is holding its AGM on Saturday, December 16, followed by a snooker dash and refreshments.
