ENTERPRISE Cars Swim Team won the Herald Aggregate Cup Presidents Cup (most points in the 14 years and over age group, including relays) in the final day of the Hawke’s Bay-Poverty Bay summer championships at the Olympic Pool yesterday.

In one of the closest meets in many years, Enterprise were pipped for the Presidents Cup (most points in all age groups) and the United Trophy (most titles in the champs).

Enterprise were beaten for both trophies by Aquahawks (Napier) by one title and 2½ points.

Enterprise went into yesterday’s final session 120 points behind Aquahawks but produced a storming finish to what head coach Gary Martin said was “an exciting end to a meet that saw some great swimming” over the four days.

“I was surprised we went into yesterday’s session 120 points behind — not disappointed, more surprised,” Martin said.

“But I was rapt with the response from all our swimmers.

“We work hard and train them to be prepared to last the whole meet, and that was encouraging, that they all finished well.”

Martin said a couple of disqualifications cost his team.

“But we’re talking about young kids who will have learned from the experience and be better for it in future meets. It’s onwards and upwards.”

Comet showed their potential by winning the Junior Aggregate Cup (most points in the 13yrs and under age group).

“Yesterday’s session was a great way to end the meet,” said coach Andrew Bull.
