HAWKE’S Bay golfer Tyson Tawera became the latest player to ascend the throne at the King of the Coast men’s open at Tolaga Bay golf course yesterday.

Tawera proved too solid for Mahia’s Peter Bremner in the championship 16 matchplay final, winning 5 and 4 to claim the KoTC accolade in his first time at the two-day tournament.

In yesterday morning’s semfinals, Tawera defeated Poverty Bay greenkeeper William Brown 2 and 1 while two-time KoTC winner Bremner edged out Poverty Bay teenager Tini Hawea 1-up.
