apuae from Wairoa climbed into fifth place on overall points in Gisborne premier-grade netball with a thrilling one-goal victory at the YMCA on Saturday.

In the other match, YMP Sunshine Brewery extended their lead at the top of the points table.

Tapuae defeated Gillies Electrical Gisborne Girls' High School Senior A 57-56.

The students started strongly and were ahead 14-11 at the end of the first quarter.

But Tapuae fought back to level pegging, 24-all, at halftime, and led 41-40 at three-quartertime.

“We expected this to be a close game after their Round 2 match finished with only three goals in it, and this game did not disappoint,” Gisborne Netball Centre manager Allisa Hall said.

“Girls' High picked up a much-treasured bonus point with only one session of games in the round to play before teams are seeded for semifinals.”

The win moves Tapuae on to 13 points, in fifth place now, with the students on 11 in sixth.

In the second Pak'nSave competition match, YMP made short work of Claydens Waikohu (1), leading all the way to win 54-34.

The quarter scores tell the story — 11-6 to YMP after 15 minutes, 25-18 at halftime, and 39-27 after 45 minutes.

“YMP led from the early stages and kept their momentum through the full 60 minutes,” Hall said.

“They capitalised on errors by the Waikohu girls.

“It was a great day of competition right across the grades on Saturday and lots of grades are extremely close.

“Final seedings for the semis are going to come down to the last weekend of the round to determine who plays who, which is fabulous for the competition.”

Results from the other grades —
