Success at pool rescue champs

GISBORNE surf lifeguards came home from the Surf Lifesaving New Zealand Pool Rescue Championships this month with a stack of medals, including multiple golds to Jack Keepa of the Wainui club.

The Gisborne competitors won nine medals in the championships, which were held in Hamilton on October 2, 3 and 4.

Keepa, from Riversun Wainui, won gold in the under-17 male 50-metre swim with fins, in the 100m manikin carry with fins, and in the 100m manikin tow with fins.

Kaiaponi Farms Waikanae’s Lachie Fallon was another standout competitor in that age group.

He won silver in the u17 male 50m manikin carry, and silver in the u17 male 100m manikin carry with fins.

Dawson Building Midway’s Tyron Evans took the silver medal in the u15 male 100m manikin carry with fins.

Edan Wilson from Waikanae won bronze in the u19 female 100m manikin tow with fins, and bronze in the u19 female 100m rescue medley.

Keepa’s sister Charlie won the bronze medal in the u13 female 50m rescue medley.

Wainui head coach Dion Williams coached the Gisborne team throughout the winter and supported all the Gisborne athletes at the competition.
